IXmlSerializable interface fully available in .NET 2.0
August 31, 2005The .NET 1.1 framework internally uses the IXmlSerializable interface for custom XML serialisation of certain classes. In fact the only class that I can come up with is the DataSet class (and all classes derived from the DataSet class). The following description is issued by the MSDN documentation:
This type supports the .NET Framework infrastructure and is not intended to be used directly from your code.
You can use it, but there are some problems with it. Apparently, when a class implements the IXmlSerializable interface, the XmlRootAttribute attribute cannot be applied to that class.
I just discovered that in .NET 2.0 this class is fully functional and can be used in conjunction with the XmlRootAttribute interface.

Isn’t life great with the upcoming .NET Framework 2.0!
